Quantitative PCR/Real-time PCR
 
 
Quantitative PCR (qPCR) or real-time PCR (RT-PCR) can detect incredibly small amounts of fungi DNA in a sample and also gauges the amount present; i.e. it quantifies.
This lab technique has many different applications, such as detecting pathogenic fungi in a plant or wooden structure, and also detecting fungi such as truffles in a soil sample, as well as any contaminants. Quantification reveals where and when there is more mycelium in the soil from a mycorrhizal fungus, which helps us to understand its behaviour. This technique has many other practical applications, such as gene expression assays.

qPCR detection and quantification techniques require developments to be able to carry out repeated analyses and they also need to be tested to gauge their efficiency. Consequently, at IDForest we are perfecting detection/quantification techniques for the following fungi: Tuber aestivum, Tuber brumale, Tuber indicum, Tuber borchii and Trichophaea woolhopeia.
